Waterdown ON - Coming off his second RBC Canadian Open Appearance at Hamilton Golf & Country Club just a week ago, Brian McCann (Braeben Academy) commits to play in the 2nd Annual Pro/Junior Golf Classic benefiting The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour on Thursday August 16th, 2012.

McCann and partner John Boncoddo were Team Champions and current defending champions of the Paul Jamieson Memorial Trophy.  With Boncoddo's decision to not play the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour in the 2012 season, the door is open for a new partnership and opportunity to play alongside one of the top players in the nation...

"I am thrilled to have Brian in the Field and respect his decision to come back and help support a tour he is a past champion of." states tournament coordinator Jim Kenesky.  "Brian is a great player and personality that the juniors will love to watch and be around.  The Junior Tour and this event are excited to have his presence for a second consecutive year."

The Inaugural Pro/Junior Golf Classic was held at Southbrook Golf & Country Club in 2011 and saw a thrilling finish in the Junior Division where Brad Hildebrandt defeated home course favourite John Majerovich in a playoff.  In the Professional Division Eric Ross posted a single point more then a foursome of players that included Brian McCann.  The Pro/Junior uses a Quota Point Scoring system that adds excitement and many different outcomes to the event.

Scoring System:
0pt - Double Bogey +
1pt - Bogey
2pts - Par
4pts - Birdie
8pts - Eagle
16pts - Double Eagle

"This year's event will be hosted by Southern Pines Golf & Country Club in Mt. Hope ON and with the unique scoring system in place should see an evening up of the field." says Kenesky.  "With twelve par 3's, five par 4's, and one par 5 and it's very challenging executive length, the course will offer up many birdies, eagles, and bogies.  The staff and members at Southern Pines are excited to host the event and those involved with the tournament feel it will test all abilities on August 16th."

The Pro/Junior Golf Classic is an official event on the Golden Horseshoe Area Golf Tour's schedule and is the final event that players are able to collect valuable regular season points before the playoffs start on August 27th.  The top 16 on the 2012 Wick Agencies Order of Merit will qualify for the playoffs and have a chance to win the John H. Davis Cup.

Other Top Hamilton/Halton Area Professionals committed to the field include:
  • Ed Maunder (Deerfield GC) - former Canadian Tour player
  • Alf Callowhill (Glen Abbey Academy) - 2011 John H. Davis Cup winner
  • Ron Kenesky (Twenty Valley G&CC) - 2010 PGA of Ontario Champion
  • David Moro (Credit Valley G&CC) - 2009 PGA of Ontario Champion
  • Yong Woo Kim (Golf Town Burlington) - Current Wick Agencies Order of Merit leader GHT
  • Jim Zwolak (Glen Abbey Academy) - Former Canadian Tour player

The field will also host a variety of top junior golfers including Nic Ross, Chad Watts-Denyes, Craig Stefureak (2011 Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tout Champion), John Majerovich, and defending Pro/Junior Junior Champion Brad Hildebrandt.  In total there will be approximately 30 juniors and 30 professionals competing in the 2012 event.
