Mt.Hope ON - When a junior golfer can beat a field of professionals, it's a big deal.  Nic Ross 17, was the top player in a field of 29 professionals and 29 of his junior peers at Southern PInes G&CC in Mt. Hope on Thursday August 16th.  The 2nd Annual Pro/Junior Golf Classic brings together the top Hamilton/Halton area professionals off the Golden Horseshoe Area Golf Tour and the best junior golfers off the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour in a unique yet fresh tournament setting.  Three different events were played using a quota point scoring system and Nic Ross was victorious in the two he was eligible to win.  Ross tallied 49 points and was 6 points ahead of the nearest professional and 9 points better then the second place junior.  Ross' round featured

5 birdies and 1 eagle and his professional partner Stephen Marshall (Golf Town Hamilton) rode along with 35 points of his own to help the team to 84 points and take home the Paul Jamieson Memorial Trophy as Team Champions. 

Chad Watts-Denyes was second in the junior division with 40 points and Robert Wilkinson accumulated 38 points to finish is solo third.

The professional division saw Matt Robinson (Heron Point) and Fraser McIntyre (Trafalgar G&CC) tie for first with 43 points.  McIntyre carded a field best 27 points on the front nine, but only managed to make 16 points on the inward nine to tie for the lead.  Robinson got off to a shaky start on the first hole, but gained momentum and finished strong to post the first score of the day, which was solo first until McIntyre threw his score on the board later in the day.

The Pro/Junior Golf Classic was a huge success and will be a growing event for years to come.
